The Deborah Harry song catalog you find on this page was compiled by me, the webmaster, with the help of my personal record collection, booklets, biographies, setlists, ASCAP, the LoC (Library of Congress), articles and (live) bootlegs. It's my goal to create a page which features Deborah's complete musical body of work, no matter if Deborah was in any way musically involved herself or whether she contributed her own lyrics to a project. In order to keep up the standard of this page and to make it grow you can help by submitting song titles and/or information which are missing on this site. Every contribution is greatly appreciated. Official song lyrics were taken from booklets. I transcribed those songs myself where no official lyrics were available (with no guarantee for their accuracy). I apologize for possible errors and will gladly take corrections. I kindly ask you not to copy any of these lyrics from this page.
All song pages include links to the albums, singles and/or live albums which they were released on. Best Ofs and soundtracks were only listed if there is a special mix available on the record or the song title itself was previously unreleased.

Nothing Is Real But The Girl

NOTHING IS REAL BUT THE GIRL

Some days are all Mondays sort of time on ice it seems like jet planes on snowed in runways under clear blue skies who needs it

Nothing is real but the girl nothing is real but her

Money goes to money in a figure eight around me money who's gonna love me if I liquidate and drown me

Nothing is real but the girl nothing else feels solid

We believe in love we believe in little things like heaven up above and seven it's a lucky number we believe that something lives inside every thing there is don't think about it much I mean it I believe it I believe it

Wind down put your mind down like your missing school you'll teach her to find out while your dying in your living room how much you need her

Nothing is real but the girl only her eyes are solid nothing is real but her nothing is real but the girl

COMMENTS

quoted from the book 'Deborah Harry: Platinum Blonde - A Portrait By Cathay Che' - 1999

"Let's talk about other songs on the new album. How about 'Nothing Is Real But The Girl' - is that a Jimmy song? - Yeah, it's about his daughter. It's about the hard times he went through and watching his little girl. Nothing mattered but her. It's very sweet, too."

"Destri wrote the song with his daughter in mind, however when the song was re-recorded for the single release, the narrative was changed from the third person to the first, shifting the focus of the song onto vocalist Debbie Harry. For example, "Only her eyes feel solid" became "Only my eyes feel solid". New lyrics were also written for the bridge."
